Isle of Man Weather in September
With autumn creeping in but the residual summer heat remaining, the Isle of Man is a time when temperatures are extremely comfortable on the island. With lower temperatures than the height of summer, daily averages of between 14–18°C bring a mildness to the island that is great for outdoor exploration including hiking and cycling. However, there are still plenty of hot and sunny days when temperatures peak into the 20s allowing you to enjoy beach days on the island too.
Most days are clear and sunny providing a stunning backdrop for the incoming autumnal colours to contrast against. There are also some overcast days but they are typically few and far between. The month is also relatively dry with less than moderate rainfall. Showers are always a possibility but usually short, yet it is still best to be prepared and always head out with waterproofs.
September also sees plenty of daylight with up to 12 hours of exploration time. With sunrise between 6:30-7:00am, you can still head out early to make the most of the day. At the start of the month, the sun does not set until after 7:00pm, getting earlier as the month progresses. However, this timing provides you with the opportunity to make the most of the autumnal daylight before making way for evenings snuggled up in a cosy pub or heading to one of the island’s Dark Sky Sites for a spot of stargazing.

September is a month that offers some of the island’s most loved events with attractions fully operational to provide you with plenty to do during your island break.
Snaefell Mountain
It is always a good time to head up Snaefell Mountain but September is truly spectacular. With the changing scenery bringing new hues to the backdrop, the views from Snaefell Mountain are magnificent. The mild conditions offer comfortable temperatures that are perfect for hiking while alternatively, the Snaefell Mountain Railway is still in operation to take you to the peak.
Walk the Isle of Man
September is a big month for walking holidays on the Isle of Man with great weather conditions and beautiful scenery. The island’s walking festival is another attraction that offers a week-long schedule of guided tours for a variety of ability levels. An incredible way to experience hidden corners of the island with breathtaking routes and company en route, Walk the Isle of Man is a great way to explore the island on two feet.
Isle of Man Food and Drink Festival
An opportunity to sample the flavours of the island in a celebration of Manx produce, the Isle of Man Food and Drink Festival is one of the island’s biggest annual events. Taking over the Villa Marina Gardens for a full weekend of festivities, this event showcases more than 40 exhibitors selling their finest produce, freshly made goods, award-winning dishes and local brews. It is also a chance to try these freshest Manx seafood while cooking demonstrations are a major part of the event and even little ones can get involved at the Children’s Marquee. With something to offer the whole family, opportunities to get involved and incredible taste sensations, this event is a great way to experience the island’s food culture.
Isle of Man Figaro Rally & Festival of Motoring
Now in its fifth year, the Isle of Man Figaro Rally & Festival of Motoring is a newer addition to the island’s famous line up of motoring events. Hosted by the Figaro Owners Club, the Figaro Rally provides owners of the classic car with the opportunity to drive on a section of the world famous TT circuit. A Douglas seafront car display is also part of the festival alongside a full weekend of events for Figaro owners and car enthusiasts to connect including visits to the Isle of Man Motor Museum and the Jurby Transport Museum.
Stargazing at Niarbyl Bay
One of the best places for stargazing in the British Isles, the Isle of Man is home to an incredible 26 designated Dark Sky Discovery Sites. The clear conditions of these areas provide excellent opportunities for stargazing and the occasional chance to catch the Northern Lights. With the sun setting between 6-7pm throughout September, the darker evenings provide time to admire the night sky without the need to stay up late. With little light pollution due to its coastal location, Niarbyl Bay is one of the best spots in September with amazing views of the Milky Way and the best place to witness the aurora borealis if conditions are right.
Traie Vane
Also known as White Beach, Traie Vane is a secluded coastal spot that is simply breathtaking. A beauty spot located next to Niarbyl, it boasts the best scenery of the south coast and is the best beach to admire the sunset from. A pebble beach made up of glistening white quartz stones, the beach always appears to be glowing and is a destination steeped in legend. It is said that an underwater mermaid kingdom exists off Niarbyl Bay and that these beautiful pebbles are the currency of this mythical land. Whether you are fascinated by legend or not, there is no denying that Traie Vane is a spectacular beach.
