Royal Guernsey Golf Club, L’Ancresse
The Royal Guernsey Golf Club was founded in 1890, is located in Vale and has a challenging links 18 hole golf course, situated on L’Ancresse Common at the northern end of the Island. With beautiful surroundings and rolling beaches on two sides, the course takes full advantage of the natural undulating beauty of the environment. Over the years the Royal Guernsey Golf Club has provided members and visitors alike with a welcoming atmosphere and comfortable clubhouse facilities such as the Lounge Bar, pro golf shop offering a comprehensive range of equipment and clothing, and lessons from half an hour to an hour with Club Professional, Chris Douglas.
La Grande Mare Golf Club, Castel
La Grande Mare Golf Club is set in over 120 acres of land on Guernsey’s western coast, adjacent to the sandy beach of Vazon Bay in Castel and boasts a luxurious 18 hole golf course. Designed by famous golf course architect Fred Hawtree, the La Grande Mare Golf Course opened in 1994 and was originally a 14 hole course until it was extended to 18 holes in 2001. With idyllic and tranquil surroundings, golfers of all standards can enjoy a challenging par 65 golf course with the friendly and relaxed atmosphere that La Grande Mare Golf Club prides itself on.
As well as accepting green fees from non-members, there are corporate and society days, and club facilities include practice areas and a covered driving range along with a teaching area and the golf shop with an extensive range of golf equipment, clothing and accessories.
St. Pierre Park Golf Course, St Peter Port
The 9 hole St Pierre Park Golf Course is a short but challenging course and unlike many other 9 hole golf courses, this is not just a pitch and putt. Designed by Tony Jacklin with the aim of creating a 9 hole golf course with testing par 3 holes, there is an abundance of water strategically placed to catch the golfer unaware and combined with the land sloping away from the greens means you need to be on the green or very close by to have a good game. On certain holes there are two tee boxes giving an entirely different approach to the green and therefore adding to the variety and interest of this very picturesque and demanding golf course. Skill and accuracy are what’s needed for a low scoring round whilst a full set of golf clubs are not necessary, the average club golfer will need to use a five and in windy conditions a three iron to reach the green. No handicap is required to play on this golf course meaning it is ideal for those on a family holiday or the golfer wishing to play a more relaxed course or indeed beginners. Facilities at St Pierre Park Golf Course include a golf shop, a 3 hole testing par and a driving range and golf lessons are available. Hire of golf clubs and golf shoes is available too.
Sausmarez Manor Pitch and Putt, St Martins
One for the family is the beautifully kept greens of the interesting pitch and putt course at Sausmarez Manor. The course is deceptive and more difficult than it looks, and Clubs, balls, tees and score cards are all loaned free of charge. Open daily from Easter to October, there is also a small 9 hole putting green.
